With a new decade officially upon us, there will be a tremendous amount of changes when it comes to care organizations leveraging health data management solutions for enhanced operations and providing optimal care outcomes in the coming year.<\/p>\n

A couple of weeks ago, we looked back at the Top 10 IMAT payer-related<\/a> blog posts of 2019, and now\u2019s the time to be future-focused. Based on IMAT\u2019s work with customers and partners, as well as what we are seeing in the health IT news cycle, following are our Top 10 predictions for 2020:<\/p>\n

  1. Care Organizations Want Clean, Comprehensive and Current Data<\/a>: <\/strong>Launched<\/a> in 2018, the IMAT C3 Framework<\/a> will gain further traction in 2020. Taking inspiration from the Triple Aim concept of health data, the IMAT C3 ensures that all data is Clean (C1), Comprehensive (C2) and Current (C3).<\/li>\n
  2. Healthcare Organizations will Further Leverage Data for SDOH<\/a>: <\/strong>Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) programs will further come to life<\/a> in 2020 \u2013 with data being the foundation for all of these efforts.<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. HIEs Advancing Population Health Through Data<\/a>: <\/strong>Much like HASA did in 2019<\/a>, we will see more HIEs leveraging health data for population health efforts. For example, through its HASA partnership, IMAT Solutions was able to identify 130,000 diabetic patients within a population where the existing technology had identified 100,000 \u2013 a nearly 25 percent increase in patients that were both identified and validated.<\/li>\n
  4. Payers Considering Schema Versus Data Lakes<\/a>:<\/strong> With SDOH moving more into the fore-front, many payers will be considering the options between schema\/structured and data lake environments. Both will present opportunities and challenges<\/a> for payers in 2020.<\/li>\n
  5. The Rise of Virtual Health Records (VHR)<\/a>: <\/strong>VHRs will continue<\/a> to allow healthcare organizations to rapidly incorporate new and diverse data in the longitudinal patient view, as well as the capacity to adapt to their regions\u2019 dynamic care coordination and transformation needs.<\/li>\n
  6. Natural Language Processing (NLP) Bringing Meaning to Data<\/a>: <\/strong>More healthcare organizations will take advantage of NLP<\/a> for identifying concepts, context and codifying unstructured text based data \u2013 substantially increasing the amount of meaningful validated data.<\/li>\n
  7. Payers Continue to Face Market and Regulatory Pressures To Implement Clinical Data Integration<\/a>: <\/strong>To meet pressures to implement clinical data integration as a critical capability, payers will accelerate plans<\/a> to adopt comprehensive enterprise-wide solutions.<\/li>\n
  8. Health Data Management as Foundation for all HIE Activities<\/a>:<\/strong> As HIEs continue to need to provide value, health data management solutions will be the foundation for all operational initiatives \u2013 as we saw with Reliance<\/a> in 2019.<\/li>\n
  9. HIEs Will Support Smaller Practices Through Data<\/a>:<\/strong> Health data management platforms will allow HIES<\/a> to further support smaller practices in rural areas that don\u2019t have IT support staff and the resources to leverage health data.<\/li>\n
  10. Data Visualization and Interactive Dashboards:<\/strong> Health data management platforms will serve as the foundation for interactive dashboards that help to map and visualize performance against a wide-range of quality measures.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
