\u2022 The U.S. House of Representatives has passed bipartisan legislation that would extend quality reporting flexibility for MSSP ACOs<\/strong> through performance year 2029, recognizing that many organizations are not yet ready for fully electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) reporting.\u00a0 <\/small>By Mark Coetzer<\/a>, VP of Business Development at IMAT Solutions<\/p>\n The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed bipartisan legislation<\/a> that would extend quality reporting flexibility for Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), acknowledging that many organizations are not yet ready for fully electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) reporting.<\/p>\n The bill now moves to the Senate. If enacted, it would give ACOs additional flexibility while the healthcare industry continues preparing for digital quality measurement.<\/p>\n For many organizations, this proposal is welcome news, but it also presents an important question. How will ACOs use the additional time?<\/p>\n The additional flexibility should not be mistaken for a reason to delay preparation. Instead, it offers healthcare leaders an opportunity to address the data challenges that have been slowing digital quality measurement for years.<\/p>\n The bipartisan legislation reflects a practical reality that CMS and healthcare leaders have recognized for some time. Many organizations continue to face challenges collecting, standardizing, and reporting clinical quality data directly from electronic health records.<\/p>\n Differences in documentation practices, inconsistent workflows, fragmented data environments, and varying EHR capabilities all make digital quality reporting more difficult than simply replacing one reporting format with another.<\/p>\n For smaller and newer ACOs, these challenges can be especially significant.
